Property Tax Increase of 223.13% Approved

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, this increases the property tax on a $304,000 home from $38 to $115.  The city says it has lost about $75,000* last year and that the new tax will bring in about $1 million.

Keep in mind that property values have increased (meaning increased taxes) and the county has also proposed tax increases. So expect your tax increase to be more than just 223.13%.

Other cities: West Jordan killed a proposal to raise taxes to raise revenue by 38%. West Valley settled for about half. Riverton voted for the full proposed amount.

This webmaster's questions about the budget include  $12,000 for a parade float, $100,000+ for gas, 68 mobile phones/radios, and many thousands for luncheons, memberships, subscriptions, conferences, and $7,000 for a survey. Read the budget to find your own concerns. The city may be correct, but the Riverton citizens are always welcome to ask questions.

* Ok, the city said it lost 1.5 million in the last two years. I simply divided the amount by two years -- since the obvious average would be $75,000 per year.. I don't know why the two-year figures was quoted (part of a sales pitch?).
